Biography

Ann's origins and last name at birth are unknown. The Chapin Book of Genealogical Data gives the name of David Horton's wife as "probably Thayer" without a first name or source.[1] C.W. Fischer in the Descendants of Thomas Horton, notes that primary records only identify her as Ann.[2] Her birth date of 1730 is based on an estimated age of 21 at the time of marriage.

Ann married David Horton sometime before the birth of their first child in Somers, Connecticut. Ann and David had the following children (births all recorded in Somers, Connecticut:

  1. David b. 22 September 1752
  2. Moses b. 7 January 1759
  3. Ann b 11 May 1761
  4. Zebina b 17 Jul 1765

Ann and David may have had one additional child, although his birth is not recorded in Somers, and he is not mentioned in David Horton's will.

  1. Zenas b 1773 in either Vermont or Massachusetts.[1]

Ann survived her husband who died in 1778 and was the administrator of his will. Her sons Moses and Zebina sold land in Somers in 1787, presumable after their mother's death.[1]

Research notes

Other than the mention in the Chapin Book, the other clue to a "Thayer" connection is Zenas named a child "Thayer Horton" but as his connection to the family is uncertain, and his wife's origins are also unknown its not the strongest evidence. As CW Fischer notes: "If Chapin and the current researchers are assuming that Zenas named his son for his mother's surname, they need to first prove he is a son of Anne."[2]

A previous version of the profile, and online trees have attached Anne, as a daughter of Nathaniel Thayer, either of Taunton or Braintree. Neither Nathaniel can be shown to have a daughter Anne. Cole-12288 21:04, 19 January 2019 (UTC).

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ann by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ann:

Thayer-2654 and Unknown-470127 appear to represent the same person because: There is no evidence that Ann’s LNAB was Thayer. Converting the name to unknown will spur research into her actual name and origins

Hi Jason,

I've postponed the merge with the duplicate Ann's, but would like to move ahead with merging the children. Do you have any objections to switching their mother to Thayer-2654, and me proposing the merges?

thanks!

Can anyone provide a reliable source for the last name at birth. I'm struggling to find one?

I've disconnected Nathaniel Thayer as a father as I think it was part of the confusion with her husband's father Nathaniel. Parents appear to be unknown.

Hi Lyle:

I add a couple of unmerged matches to this profile. They look like duplicates, but I was wondering what your source was for Rye, NY as Ann's birthplace and Wakefield, NC as the place of death. The sources I've seen, and the other profiles show connecticut as the place for birth and death. Thanks!

(Please reply on my profile. Since I'm not on the privacy list, I won't be notified if you respond on here.)
