Biography

Alexis Thibodeau was born about 1723 in Pisiguit, Acadie, Colony of Nova Scotia, son of Jean Thibodeau and Marguerite Hebert.

Alexis married Marie Anne Blanchard, daughter of René Blanchard and Anne Landry, around 1747 in Acadie. [1]

Their children were: [2]

  1. Simon THIBODEAU, b. ca 1748, d. 24 Oct 1819, St-Denis-sur-Richelieu,
  2. Étienne Thibodeau
  3. Marie Josèphe THIBODEAU, b. ca 1754, d. Mar 1816 (Age 62 years)
  4. Henry Schuyler Thibodaux. d. 24 Oct 1827, Terrebonne

In 1755 Alexis and his family were deported to Pennsylvania.

Alexis married Catherine LeBlanc, daughter of Jacques LeBlanc and Catherine Landry, on 17 Feb 1762 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[3]

Their son was Joseph Simon Thibodeau.

Alexis appeared on a list of Acadians in Philadelphia dated 20 June 1763 with his wife and 7 children. [4]

After the end of the Seven Years' War in 1763, the Acadians detained in the Anglo-American colonies were finally free to leave. On 1 March 1765, James Murray, Governor of the Province of Quebec, issued a proclamation offering free land to new immigrants. Between 1765 and 1775, 1306 Acadians deported to New England immigrated to Quebec. [5] In April 1767 Alexis and Catherine, her daughter Marie-Josèphe Babin, their son Joseph and his children from his 1st marriage (Étienne, Simon, Marie) boarded the sloop Sally that left Philadelphia on 16 April 1767 and docked at the port of Québec City on 11 June 1767. [5] The first mention of the family in Québec records was when Catherine LeBlanc was godmother to Jean Baptiste Clouatre on 7 August 1767 in Trois-Rivières.

Alexis died on 24 Jul 1802 in Nicolet, Bas-Canada aged ~79.[6][7][1]

White) born around 1723 [but maybe closer to 1715 since on the 1795-1796 census at St-Grégoire of Nicolet (Quebec, Canada), he was listed as 73 years old, and was age 79 on his burial record of 1802]. He is listed by SAW to become (#36), the last child "l" in the family of Jean THIBODEAU & Marguerite HÉBERT.
Notes of S. A. White [translated by Karen Theriot Reader]
«i. In a letter which he addressed to his mother and sister on 16 Apr 1876, Henry Clay DESHIELD mentions having encountered Mme. BARRAS, who had recognized him as being the son of her "cousin" Joseph. Henry Clay DESHIELDS was the son of Joseph DESHIELDS and the grandson of Louis DESCHAMPS dit DESHIELDS & Marie-Madeleine THIBODEAU. This latter was the daughter of Charles THIBODEAU & Anne-Marie MELANSON. On her side, Mme. BARRAS was the daughter of Henri-Schuyler THIBODAUX, who was the son of Alexis THIBODEAU & Marie-Anne BLANCHARD. Seeing that Charles THIBODEAU was only around 12 or 14 years older than Alexis and that none of the brothers of Charles were married soon enough to be the father of Alexis, and seeing that there were no near blood relationships on the side of the wives of Charles & of Alexis, it must be that Mme. BARRAS & Joseph DESHIELDS count only as cousins in the third degree, and thus that Alexis THIBODEAU must be the youngest son of Charles THIBODEAU. We note that several acts are missing from the registers of Grand-Pré at the time when Alexis would have been born, and includes the burial act of she who must be his mother, Marguerite HÉBERT, who disappeared before 14 Jan 1727».
«ii. At the time of the Deportation, Olivier THIBODEAU, Alexis THIBODEAU and Joseph THIBODEAU were all transported from Mines to Pennsylvania with their families. We believe that they must have been removed from the same region, which leads us to believe that they were closely related. In addition, Alexis served as witness to the second marriage of Joseph, and this last served as witness to the second marriage of Alexis. We believe that this exchange allows us to conclude that Joseph and Alexis were brothers, and thus that Joseph was the brother of Jean THIBODEAU».

Thibodeau-1635 and Thibodeau-619 appear to represent the same person because: Same name. Same spouse (also needs merge). The child of each are both documented as children of Alexis by Marcel Landry, genealogist.

Considering there is no source for Alexis being in this family and some evidence he was not, I am disconnecting him from the parents. See bio for notes.
