Biography

Abijah Thomas was born 14 April 1776 in Washington County, Virginia. He was the son of John Thomas and Mary Robinett

He married Martha McReynolds on 5 March 1801 in Washington County, Virginia.[1] Name: Abijah Thomas Gender: Male Marriage Date: 05 Mar 1801 Marriage Place: Washington, Virginia Spouse: Martha Mcreynolds FHL Film Number: 34389 Reference ID: Page 465

Abijah passed away 10 July 1819 in Saint Clair Bottom, Wythe County, Virginia. This area is presently in Smyth county which was formed in 1832. He is buried in Saint Clair Bottom Primitive Baptist Cemetery, Chilhowie, Smyth County, Virginia.[2] Find A Grave has a photo of his headstone.

The following Deed is Grandfather John Thomas, born 1733, and leaving property to the children, or heirs, of his son Abijah Thomas. The following Deed lets us know that Abijah Thomas and Martha (McReynolds) Thomas had a daughter by the name of Mary Thomas.

DEED: This Indenture made this twenty first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty Between John Thomas of the County of Washington and State of Virginia on the one part and Sally Allen, John Thomas, Polly Thomas, Betsy Thomas, Martha Thomas, Sam Thomas, Anna Thomas and David Thomas of the same County, Children of Abijah Thomas deceased of the other part, Witnesseth that the said John Thomas for & in consideration of the natural love & affection which he has for his said grand children & in consideration of one dollar in hand paid doth grant bargain & Sale unto the said Sally Allen & others of the second part a certain parcel of land lying & being in the County of Washington on the South side of the South fork of Holstein River containing two hundred & seventy five acres more or less being part of two tracks of land patented to said John Thomas by the Commonwealth of Virginia and bounded as follows. Beginning... [Describes the tract of land] ... thence to Beginning with all its appurtenances. To have and To hold the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said Sally Allen & others of second part and their heirs to the sole use & behoof of them the said Sally Allen & others and their heirs forever. And the said John Thomas for himself and his heirs doth covenant with the said Sally Allen & others of the second part and their heirs that he the said John Thomas & his heirs the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances unto the said Sally Allen & others of second part children of Abijah Thomas decd & their heirs against the claims of all persons whomsoever shall warrant and will forever defend. In Witness whereof the said John Thomas hath hereunto subscribed his name and affixed his seal, the day & year first above written. John Thomas SS signed sealed & delivered in presence of Washington County to wit, We John Houston and Thomas Tilson magistrates of said County do hereby certify that John Thomas party to the written conveyance has duly acknowledged the same before us on the 21st day of January in the year of our Lord 1820 & desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court and sd County n order that the same may be recorded. Witness our hands & seals this 21st day of January 1820.
