Biography

Martha was born in Mountfield, Sussex, England to Richard Thomas and Philadelphia Philcox. She was baptized 12 June 1792 in Mountfield.^[1] Martha married James Bryant on 4 November 1817 in Mountfield.^[2] They settled in Brede, Sussex where they had four children, Julia, Ann Prudence, Henry and Harriet between 1829 and 1835.^[3]

By 1851, however, Martha was a widowed pauper, residing in Tenterden, Kent^[4] close to her daughter, Julia.^[5]. Her other three children had passed away between 1842 and 1846.

Martha passed away a year later in 1852 in Tenterden.^[6]
