Biography

Is Arabella the daughter of John and Mirable?

Jacobus in Families of Old Fairfield does not give John Thompson and Mirable Giggs (currently set as Mirabel Unknown but likely to change soon to Giggs) a daughter Arabella.[1] She was not recorded in Stratford or mentioned in John's will. Based on this, she has been severed from those asserted parents. Her origins are unknown and the previously asserted but unsourced 1635 birth at Fairfield, Connecticut has been removed (John and Mirabel married in England in 1636 and were not known to be in Connecticut until about 1640). Her husband reportedly came from Wales and was not in Connecticut until 1663.

History of Stonington by Wheeler says William Williams married Arabella Thompson but DOES NOT assert her parentage, and had the same children listed by Savage[2]

  1. Richard
  2. William m. Margaret Cooke
  3. Henry m. unknown
  4. Stephen
  5. Mary m. Samuel Packer.

I got a notice about her parentage, being changed, as she is an ancestor of mine. I am a genealogist and plan to go through the primary source records to see what I find. Many early indexes of Connecticut records in FamilySearch (for whatever reason) only have their first name indexed, and thus need to be reviewed manually. Groton records are in quite poor condition, but I will still look.

With no source for John & Mirabella/Mirable Thompson having a daughter Arabella, and Wheeler does NOT claim her parentage, it is appropriate to sever her from john & Mirable.

Thompson Williams-1 and Thompson-14628 appear to represent the same person because: same birth and death and husband, correct last name should be Thompson
