Her obituary was published in the Charleston Daily Mail Gazette on Saturday, 1 Aug 1896 in Charleston, Kanawha Co, WV :
"Mrs. Nettie Bays died on Thursday night about 12 o'clock at her home on Swann's Hill, after a lingering illness of several months. The deceased was about twenty years old. She leaves a husband, J. L. Bays, and a fifteen months old child. The funeral will take place at the residence at 10:00 o'clock today and the remains interred in Spring Hill Cemetery."
