Mary (Thompson) Tucker was a Jamestown colonist.

Birth and Parentage

Mary Thompson was born around 1599-1606 in Watton-At-Stone, Hertfordshire, England. Her parents were Robert Thompson and Elizabeth Harsnett.[1][2]

Arrival in Jamestown

In 1623, Mary and three of her brothers, William, George, and Paul, boarded the ship George and traveled to the Jamestown.[3]

Marriage, Settlement, and Family

Soon after her arrival in Virginia, Mary married Captain William Tucker. It was a chaotic time, with Indians continuing attacks begun in 1622, decimating portions of the Jamestown settlement. Captain Tucker took an active lead in defense of the colonists, and we find Captain Tucker and his wife Mary listed among the living in 1624 in Elizabeth City.[4] During this time, Mary had a child, named Elizabeth, who is listed with the Tucker family, still in Elizabeth City, in the 1624/25 Census.[5]

  4. Mary

Death

Mary is reported to have died around 1640[8]; certainly she was dead before 12 Oct 1642, when her husband wrote a will naming his wife as Frances.[7] Mary is thought to have passed away in Elizabeth City County, Colony of Virginia.

Research Notes

Some genealogists claim that Mary's father was Henry Charlton, first husband of Elizabeth Harsnett.[6] If that is true, then she was a half-sister of the Thompson brothers. Many researchers agree that her father was Ralphe Thompson.[9] But if Mary was a Thompson, was she a daughter of Ralphe Thompson or Robert Thompson (Tompson)? Here is food for thought on the subject: [10][11][12]

If anyone has a reliable source proving that Edward Beardwell was a spouse of Mary Thompson, please post it and add to the biography. The only note I could find about the two of them was from his geni.com profile: https://www.geni.com/people/Edward-Beardwell/6000000030124731346 The note says "NOT husband of Mary Thompson." Hmmm. Thanks! I have not checked out all those children, but that needs to be done too.
