Informant listed on her death certificate was her son Dr. J.R. Byers of Lovila, Iowa. (listed incorrectly, I believe on her death certificate, as G. R. Byers.)
Came to Albia in about 1865.
“Last Sunday a family reunion was enjoyed by Mrs. Rebecca Byers in honor of her eightieth birthday. A cake with its eight candles was a fit representation of the many years of usefulness on the part of this good pioneer citizen of Monroe County. Each candle might have spoken of a year of good deeds and of happiness in the home where she raised a large family of children and acted the part of a faithful wife and mother. She was fortunate in having her children at the family board on this occasion. Her daughter, Mrs. J. L. [sic] Reddish, who is spending the winter with her, had the dinner arrangements in charge and a feast of good things was supplied for the inner man.
The occasion also celebrated the marriage of Dr. A. G. Byers to a Kellerton lady in Des Moines January 14th. The bride and groom came to Albia the last of the week and spent a few days with home folks.
Dr. John Byers of Palmyra, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Giltner of Red Oak and J. R. Reddish of Lockridge were also present and a genuinely good old fashioned family visit was indulged in. Mrs. Byers is to be congratulated upon reaching her eightieth milepost and on having her children with her to celebrate the occasion.”
