I will go on FamilyTreeDNA to see if we are matched some how. Since this was posted last year I'd have to get requited with the family tie. I've been researching my Italian side for a future trip to Italy in Sept. Most of my efforts are there for the time being, however, I love family research so I'd love to work with you on the Thomson research. P.S. I do most of my work on Ancestry.com. Do you have an account there?
Sorry for my perceived silence, Denise, just come across your reply and offer. Its autosomal testing I've done. We may be related too far back to show a decent match but worth a look. My kit no on FTDNA is 273738 (or GEDMatch F273738). I'll look for your name (assumption it in your own name).
Some of your dates and placenames for the Thomson generations look like they've got jumbled in with other non-family Thomsons? eg son James has same birthdate as father James and dies on the same date as father, but in USA?
Look forward to working with you on DNA or other Thomson family research if you're interested?
I've just received my mtDNA results from FamilyTree, so your timing couldn't have been better. The Thomson's are on my maternal side, so with all the name changes I don't personally know any Thomson's to ask about DNA.
My 4x Maternal Great Grandmother was a Thomson she married a Henderson. I've generated a report and it goes back to James Thomson my 10x Great Grandfather the famous one that died on June 1, 1679 in the battle of Drumclog and Bothwell Bridge, if you'd like to receive the report I'd have to send through email, so I'd need your email address. I also, took an Autosomal DNA test through Ancestry.com and transferred results to Family Finder.
I have an article called "The Covenanters the 50 years stuggle 1638-1688" I could send too.
Hi Denise- I'm descended from James Thomson born in Lesmahagow about 1762. He is my brickwall I can't progress on. I feel there'll be a strong chance that both our Thomson branches are related as Lesmahagow is not a large community. Several of the forenames are shared but of course they are popular in any case. Also I see James died in the Battle of Drumclog. One of my Thomsons married a descendant of a covenanter hanged in Edinburgh in 1680 and there is a lot of covenanter / Presbyterian history in the branch. I took an autosomal DNA test last year - Family Finder by FTDNA. Do you know whether there are any of your Thomson descendants who have taken a DNA test, or even be interested in doing so? Any help appreciated.
