Biography

Thomas Key was born in 1867.[1] He was the son of Archibald Thomson and Elizabeth Key. He passed away in 1937.[2][3]

FATALITY AT TAITA ELDERLY MAN STRUCK BY CAR Shortly after 10 o'clock last night Mr. Thomas Key Thomson, of Gordon Road, Taita, was knocked down by a motor-car near the Avalon Tearooms, Taita. He had just alighted from a bus and was crossing the road when he was struck. Mr. Thomson received severe head injuries, a fractured left leg and a compound fracture of the right leg, and died almost immediately. The deceased, who was 71 years of age, leaves a wife and an adult family of two. For the past 34 years he had been employed as a traveller by the firm of Thomson and Lewis, aerated water manufacturers. The driver of the car, Archibald Edward Morris, an electrician, of Pahiatua, was the deceased's nephew. [4]

DRIVER BLAMELESS DEATH OF MR. T K. THOMSON In finding that Mr. Thomas Key Thomson died on May 14 from injuries received when he was knocked, down on the main road at Taita by a motorcar driven by Mr. A. E. Morris, the Coroner (Mr. E. Gilbertson, J.P.), at an inquest held at Lower Hutt yesterday, added that no blame was attachable to the driver. . The evidence showed that the deceased was a passenger from Wellington by a bus which arrived at Taita at 10 p.m. on May 14. After getting out of the bus he crossed the road diagonally, coming out into the middle of the road from behind the bus six feet in front of Mr. Morris's car, which approached from the north. At the time he was struck Mr. Thomson was running, and commenting on this the Coroner said, "I think he took a chance." There was evidence that the deceased made a practice when returning home from the bus of running diagonally to the opposite side of the road, and that he was apparently hard of hearing. . Evidence was given by Dr. H. G. Rix, and Messrs. H. W. Kitchener, A. E. Morris. R. E. Nesbit, Richard William Hore, A. W. Knight, and Constable R. Griffith. [5]
