Robert Thomson was born on 1 June 1801 and baptized on 7 June 1801 at Queen Anne St Burgher Associate, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom.[1][2]
Marriages
Robert's first marriage was to Mary Hunter on 31 August 1823 in Dunfermline, Fife.[3]
Mary must have died between 1826 and 1831 when Robert remarried Catherine Young on 21 January 1831 in Beath, Fife.[4]
Children from this marriage were:
In 1841, Robert's age was given as 39 years, living at Rumbling Well in Dunfermline with his second wife, Catherine and children James, Andrew, Peter, Robert, Charles and Isabella.[5]
In 1851, his occupation was coal miner. Of interest, his son, Robert, also died accidently in a mining accident aged 42 years in 1866. The family was living in the town of Milesmark, Inverkeithing. He was 49 years old and also present were Catherine, Peter 19, Robert 17, Charles 13, Isabella 11 and Henrietta aged 4, possibly the child of their son, James.[6]
In 1861, Robert's age had been wrongly recorded as 53 years. They were still living at Milesmark and present were Catherine, Charles 23, Isabella 21, and Henrietta 14, grand daughter.[7]
Accidental Death
Robert died accidently the year following when he fell from the upper level of the mine shaft to the bottom. He must have died soon after as he was not seen by a Medical Practitioner. He was aged 61 years of age. There is a correction with the death certificate by a Police Constable describing cause of death. He was buried on 17 February 1862 and his son, James, was the informant.[8]
His death was registered under the Number 15 in the Reg Book of Deaths 1862.
