He hated leaving the disrict and his friends but the family moved to Sydney when he was twelve (1936). He attended Belmore Technical School , but he never settled properly and left school early. When he was 16 he started with State Rail and at 18 went into the Army,where he spent 3 1/2
years......1945 saw him back home returning to work in the railway where he completed a Carriage
Builder's Course.....While in New Guinea he commenced writing to Joy and we fell into a happy court-
ship with lots of good friends and wonderful times.
We married in 1948 and had our 2 children in the 1950's. Barney built our home at Panania
and he enjoyed working with the Scout Assoc.He found much enjoyment,too, working with Pnania Masonic Lodge and made many good friends over the years
Barney left the Railways in the 1950's going on to work for Lenix Hoists at Camperdown who were taken over by Clyde Engineering and soon after he left to finish his working life with D.W.& H.O.
