Biography

Not much is known about William Thorne (aka Dorne). He was born about 1485 in Northamptonshire, England, based on the age of his children. His parents are reported to have been:

Father: Thomas DORNE b: ABT 1455 in Northamptonshire, England
Mother: Alice ARDEN b: ABT 1460 in of Cottesford and Kirtlington, Oxfordshire, England

His wife's name was Alice and she is believed to have been named Alice Stotesbury, born ca. 1500 in Evenley, Northamptonshire, England. They married between 1515 and 1520.[1] Alice and William Thorne had at least the following 2 children:

  1. Thomas THORNE b: ABT 1521 in Yardley-Hastings, Northamptonshire, England
  2. George Thorne b: ABT 1525 in Yardley-Hastings, Northamptonshire, England

William's name was connected to the Manor of Syersham in several documents. In 1531 he was named the Patron of the living at Yardley, meaning he could appoint the minister to the local church.

In early 1537 he wrote his will naming his wife Alice (Alys) and his oldest son Thomas, to whom he left his copyhold of the lands he held in Yardley and Syersham and 'other places'.

He died in March 1537 at Yardley-Hasting, Northamptonshire England.

Brandon Fradd believes William Thorne's wife's surname was Stotesbury. [2][3]

Research Notes

Richardson states that he married Alice Stutysbury,[5] but various unsourced internet trees (yay!) for some reason have him married to Alice Denton, daughter of a one the Thomas Dentons of Caversfield, Bucks., and many of these net.trees have also conferred upon William a historically dubious knighthood.

Thorne-1626 and Thorne-111 appear to represent the same person because: Thorne-1626 and Thorne-111 are duplicates resulting from duplicates of both parents that are also undergoing merge proposals. All have same names, relationships,, partners and dates but the birth location (which remains consistent in the line) is slightly different. However with so many relatives all the same in a line there is clearly a duplicates family or a discussion should occur to change facts for one set.

William Thorne born 1485 should be merged with William Thorne born 1485 and I'm not allowed to be involved. You pre 1500's need to get it together
