Richard Thorne was born to William his wife Winifred[1] in Hempstead, New York, supposedly about 1676.[2][citation needed] At that time Hempstead was legally within the North Riding of Yorkshire, Province of New York.
2 Dec 1698 (13 Dec 1698 N.S.), Richard, of madnans necke in hempstead, sold "to henery allen of same place... all my Lands and houseing lying upon ye Last Devition of ye necke afre sd with ye orchards...which Lott I ye sd Richard thorne bought of Josias Hallitt."[3]
On 24 Feb 1698 (O.S.), William Thorne conveyed to his son Richard "all and every parcell & parcells of land I have on said great neck together with all the housings, privileges and appurtenances, thereunto belonging."[1] This is a bit odd, as it doesn't in any way represent primogeniture -- Richard, if accounts are to be believed of other siblings, was his fourth son (behind William, John, and Denton).[4]
On 29 August 1699, Richard and Phebe Denton were licensed to be married.[5]
Richard Thorne of Madnan's Neck in Hempstead executed his last will on 8 November 1706, witnessed by John Thomas Clew, Thomas Hicks, Isaac Hicks and Johannes van Wyck, nominating "my well beloved wife Pheebe Thorn" sole and principal executrix, and "my faithful and trusty friends Capt. Thomas Tredwell and Theodorus van Wyck" as overseers, making bequests to his wife Phebe, to son Richard, to daughters Hannah, Mary and Pheebe, and to his sister Margarett Ratton, to be paid after the decease of his mother Winnifret Thorne.[6]
Children of Richard and Phebe (Denton) Thorne:

Richard Thorne, b. abt. 1706, m. Aeltje van Wyck[7][8]
