Biography

John Nevill’s marriage to Bridget Thorsley is somewhat documented. Exact details of Bridget’s birth and death are inconsistent and conflicting. Foremost among these conflicts is that Lord Baltimore's first settlers arrived in the new colony in March 1634, which agrees with the immigration sources below.

It appears she was born in England and immigrated from England to Maryland and married John Nevill. They had at least one child named James Nevill.

Research Notes

It appears that Bridget was born in England and immigrated from England to Maryland and married John Nevill.

Name variations: Bridget Thorsley, Thornbay, Thomsley ot Thorsbey.

Bridget was born in about 1618 in England. It is thought that Bridget died c.1643/4 in Calvert, Maryland; Age: 30-31. However some show her death was in 1646.

Various sources are conflicted as to the children of John Neville. Some show that he had three children with his first wife Bridget. Some sources indicate that James Neville was the eldest child. Other sources show that John Neville and Bridget Thorsbey did not have a son named James. Additional children shown in some sources include Ellen Neville and John Neville Jr., as children of John’s first wife Bridget Thorsbey. John had a son named William Neville with his second wife Johanna (Joan) Porter.

  • "First colonized as part of Charles County (much larger than the present-day Charles County) around 1650, it was renamed. Patuxent County was established in 1654 by an Order in Council. In 1658 the county was renamed Calvert County. It is one of the older counties in Maryland, after St. Mary's County, Kent County and Anne Arundel County."

I've removed the Calvert County, Maryland category as she died before the category reference date of 1658.

Wilson (1964), states Bridget married John in England but the passenger list of the Ark and the Dove records John Neville and -- according to Wilson -- his brother Richard Nevitt. (see list[1][2])

Thomsley-1 and Thorsley-2 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same women, but I don't think she was born in Maryland. Please merge. Thanks.
