According to Maryland Court Records, Tradesman Thomas Alcock took Ann Fowke to Court in January 1669/70 for non-payment of her husband's contract with him the previous May, to pay 2,000 pounds of tobacco for building him a "cyder mill and presse". Apparently the mill and press were built, but Thomas had not been paid. Ann brought her lawyer to court, but lost the case, and was ordered to pay not only her husband's debt, but court costs.
