Adam Thorowgood or Thoroughgood[1]
Adam was baptised on 15 July 1604 at the parish church of Grimston, Norfolk, England where his father William was the Rector. He was the ninth son to be baptised there, and the number 9 has been added against his name in a different hand: [2]

He patented 5350 acres on the Chesapeake Bay, for transportation of himself, wife Sarah and 105 other persons on the "Hopewell" in 1628, also that he returned again with Edward Windham, William and Ann Burroughs, and others in the "John and Dorothy", In 1634. This was re-granted Sept 19, 1637. He received several smaller grants of land and was probably the largest land owner in the county. (Historical Southern Families vol VI. John Bennett Boddie. 1993. After bequeathing his soul to God and his body to be buried in the parish church of Lynnhaven, near his children, he gives 1000 lbs tobacco to that church for the purchase of some necessary and decent ornament, the the following legacies: To his beloved brother, Mr Edward Windham (perhaps the brother of his sister-in-law), one cow, calfe and one goat; brother Rober Hayes, one goat; the three chirldren of Robert Hayes, one goat each; godson Adam Keeling, one goat; Jean Wheeler, a goat and shoat, to wife, a mare and foal, one of the best cows in the pen, half a dozen goats, four sows, and part of the plantation at Lynnhaven, for life, "all which I give her as a memorial of my Love - not any ways intending to cut her off from equal share in my estate with my children;" to son Adam, all rest of houses and lands in Virginia. All remainder of horses, cows, goats, sheep, hogs, servants, crop and other estate, to be equally divided between wife Sarah, and children, Adam, Ann, Sarah, and Elizabeth. Wife ececutrix, and friend Capt Thomas Willoughbie and Mr Henry Seawell, here in Virginia, and brother Sir John Thorowgood, of Kinsington, near London, and Mr Alexander Harris, "My wifes's uncle," living on Tower Hill (London), overseers of the Will.

Probated:
Adam immigrated to Virginia in 1621 and settled in Kicotan (Hampton) at Elizabeth City County, Virginia on the Charles.[4][5] In about 1634, he removed to Lynnhaven Bay, Princess Anne County.[5]
In 1629, Adam was Commissioner and Burgess for Elizabeth City County, and in 1630, he was Burgess.[5]
Adam Thoroughgood was member of the Virginia House of Burgesses for Elizabeth City County at the session of 16 October 1629; Lower Part of Elizabeth City County 24 March 1629-30. In 1637 he was appointed a member of the Virginia Council.[6]
