Death of J. Wesley Threatt

Funeral services for John Wesley Threatt, 75 years old was held Wednesday

afternoon from the White Plains church, near Pageland at 2:30. interment in

the White Plains cemetery. The funeral was conducted by Rev. G. T. Hughes of

the Bethel Methodist church of the East Lancaster circuit. Mr. Threatt is

survived by several children. His wife died two years ago. Mr. Threatt was a

brother of the late Mrs. W. B. Plyler whose death occurred Saturday, March

24. The Reeves funeral home was in charge.

No clues as to which paper or year this clipping is taken.

Note: It was necessary to eliminate the possibility that this was one of the other individuals named John Threatt who lived in the area during the latter half of the 1800's. At least, the prime possibilities, John Wesley Threatt and John Wilson Threatt from another line are buried elsewhere, and can be excluded. John Wesley Threatt died over 30 years before his wife's death, as calculated by his predeceasing his father's will which was written in 1890. Until cemetery records or other information can be located, we will assume that this is the younger brother of Miles Threatt, buried in the same cemetery. His wife, Dena Hilton, is buried at Tabernacle UMC in Lancaster Co., South Carolina. Thanks to the helpful descendents of the various John W. Threatts for invaluable assistance in identifying their ancestors. Have tombstone photo (June 2002).
