Susan Jane Ticer was born 5 October 1822, in York County, South Carolina. Susan was the daughter of Samuel Ticer and Polly Spears.[1]
Susan's uncle William Spears left bequest to Susan in his will dated 4th February 1835 and proved April 1836 court as follows: ". . . and to each of my nieces Elicy S. Rea and Susan Jane Ticer a bedstead and furniture. All my real estate and the balance of my personal property, that is my kitchen furniture . . . are to be sold, and the proceeds, together with cash on hand and the collections from debts due me, are to be divided equally between my two nieces Elicy S. Rea and Susan Jane Ticer . . ." Susan's father, Samuel Ticer was the Executor of the will of William Spears.[2]
Susan married first, Jesse Niven on 24 January 1843, in Shelby County, Alabama.[3]
Susan and Jesse Lindsey Niven were the parents of three (3) children: Samuel Lindsey Niven, Mary Ann Niven, and Jesse Niven.
Susan married second, Daniel Wilder on the 25th of January 1848, in Shelby County, Alabama.[4]
Susan appears in the 1850 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama in the household of her husband, Daniel Wilder. Daniel's household appears as follows: Daniel age 35; Susan age 30; Jesse age 4; Mary age 6; Samuel age 7; Louisa age 2; and Laura age 1. Note: the census taker in the 1850 census list Jesse, Mary and Samuel with the surname of Wilder. Jesse, Mary and Samuel's surname is Niven as they are the children of Susan's deceased husband Jesse Lindsay Niven.[5]
Susan's husband Daniel Wilder died the 17th January, 1865 at the home of Mr. C.A. Howard, and is buried in the Barnett Cemetery in Lauderdale county, Alabama. Mr. Howard wrote Susan a letter telling her of Daniel's death. The original letter from Mr. C.A. Howard to Susan J. Wilder is owned by Carolyn J. Wilder.
Susan filed for and was named administrator of the estate of Daniel Wilder by the Probate Court of Shelby county, Alabama on the 24th October, 1866.[6]
Susan appears in the 1870 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama as head of household. Susan's household appears as follows: Susan age 50; Martha age 21; Zora age 19; S.F (Sarah Frances). age 17; Scina (Sena Elisabeth) age 15; Susan A. age 13; John (John Ticer) age 12; William age 10; J. M. (James Monroe) age 8; and Clark (Emily Clark) age 6.[7]
Susan appears in the 1880 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama as head of household. Susan's household appears as follows: Susan age 57; Susan A. age 25; William A. age 21; James M. age 19; and Emily C. age 15.[8]
Susan and Daniel Wilder were the parents of nine (9) children: Martha Wilder, Izora Wilder, Sara Wilder, Senia Wilder, Susan Wilder, John T. Wilder, William A. Wilder, James M. Wilder, and Emily Wilder.
Susan died on 30 January 1890, in Shelby County, Alabama and was buried in the Old Quinn Burying Ground, Chelsea, Shelby County, Alabama.[9]
"Mrs. Susan Wilder, an old and esteemed lady, died a few days ago of heart disease." - Susan's death was published in the "Weldon Items, Weldon, Ala., published; in The Shelby Chronicle, Columbiana, Ala., Wednesday, February 5, 1890; Volume 4, Number 31.[10]
