Tiffany Family including American progenitor - Humphrey Tiffany. First reference in America - Rehoboth, Massachusetts in January 22, 1663. Wife - Elizabeth and residence in Swansea, Massachusetts. According to this book, Squire is a shortened version of Esquire and may refer to him being a Justice of the Peace. While riding from Swansea to Boston, with Frances Low, a neighbor's daughter, he was struck by lightning on July 15, 1685. The Puritan community considered this to be an "Act of God". (From Historic Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and Family History of New York – Volume 4).
Spouse: Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) Tiffany (1645 - 1708)
Children.[3] (I) Humphrey Tiffany, probably the ancestor of most of that name, came to Massachusetts about 1660, and was a citizen of Rehoboth as early as January 22, 1663. His home was in that part of Rehoboth which is now Swansea, and he was killed by lightning, July 15, 1685, while on a journey from Swansea to Boston. He was survived by his wife Elizabeth, who became executrix of his estate. The records of Swansea show that he had a daughter Sarah, born July 6, 1683, in that town. Other known children were: James, Thomas, Ebenezer, Consider and Hezekiah. The last named was drowned December 4, 1685.

There is no way that the picture shown and identified as my Squire Humphrey Tiffany is the same man. The man in this picture is dressed in the fashion of someone from the 1870's thru 1880's. How could such a mistake be made I wonder. It should be removed until a real picture can be located. I would love to see the original source document that identified this man as Humphrey Tiffany for myself. William L. Fox, a direct descendant of Humphrey Tiffany.
