John Milton Tippett, 88, died May 6, 1997, at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chapel of the Chimes, Laurel Land Memorial Park, in Fort Worth, Texas. The Rev. Mike Young will officiate. His ashes will be buried at Laurel Land Memorial Park.
Mr. Tippett was born Jan. 9, 1909, in Abilene, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University. During World War II, he served as an officer in the Army Air Corp in the Philippines.
Mr. Tippett was self employed as a sheep/cattle rancher and farmer until retiring in 1973. He came to Anchorage in November 1994.
He was a member of Westcliff Methodist Church in Fort Worth and Grace Brethren Church in Anchorage. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and enjoying Alaska's wildlife.
Mr. Tippett's wife, Grace, died in 1993.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Living Tippett; daughter and son-in-law, Living Comolli; grandsons, Living Tippett; granddaughters, Living Tippett, Living Comolli and Living Comolli; and sister, Living Hemphill.
J.M., his family said, was a strong, quiet man with simple tastes in life who greatly missed his wife, Grace, to whom he was married 50 years. He will be missed by friends and family in both Texas and Alaska.
Arrangements were by Anchorage Funeral Home.
