Thomas Soward was born about 1746, possibly in Pennsylvania.^{[citation needed]}

A previous version of this profile claimed (citing apparently a Find-a-Grave memorial based on how the information was pasted into the profile) that he was born 1760 in Queen Anne's, Maryland, son of Isaac Sowards (1728 - 1803) and Esther Sowards (1760 - 1821). Isaac as father might be accurate, but the Esther of these dates is believed to be his wife, not his mother. This same Find-a-Grave profile apparently claimed he also died 17 NOV 1840 in Effingham, Illinois, USA, but those dates clearly refer to a different person. THIS profile is for the Thomas Soward who died in 1815 in Ohio.

He is supposedly buried at Butler Cemetery, Moreland, Wayne County.

His find-a-grave memorial reads: "Volunteer has been to claimed burial site; no makers exist. The area is owned by the State of Ohio burial sites have been reclaimed by nature."^[3]
