Robert was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, on January 5, 1881. He was the son of William Todd and Elizabeth Musgrave. He was baptized on February 2, 1881, in Aftercliffe, Yorkshire.
Robert was enumerated in the 1881 census as a two month old residing with his parents and four siblings at 49 Chippingham Street, Attercliffe Cum Darnall, Yorkshire (Reg. Dist. Sheffield). His father's occupation "Clerk of Works Builder". (Note...parents and two siblings appear on preceding page). He was one of four children residing with his parents at 6 Central Depot, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, in 1891. His father was listed as "General Foreman Highway". (Note...family name listed as Lodd). Robert was ten and a "Scholar". The family was back in Yorkshire in 1901 and living at 84 Thornhill Road, Rastrick (Reg. Dist. Halifax). Robert was twenty and a "Bricklayer".
Robert married Ada Crossley Utley on November 25, 1903, at St Paul Church, Eastthorpe. (The marriage was registered in Dewsbury. The Parish Register listed Robert as a twenty two year old bachelor and "Bricklayer" residing in Rastrick. His father was named as William Todd "Building Inspector". Ada was a twenty four year old spinster residing in Eastthorpe. No father listed (noted as "Illegitimate"). The witnesses were Ethel Maud Todd and Samuel Crossley. The couple would have seven children between 1904 and 1913, including two sets of twins.
Robert and Ada appeared in the 1911 census residing at Sperrin Rd, Netherton Nr Huddersfield, Yorkshire. Three children, Elsie, age six, Nellie, three, and Richard, eleven months, at residence. Robert's occupation "Bricklayer".
Robert was a member of the Royal Engineers, Regimental Number 104417, during World War I. His attestation papers were dated August 5, 1915, in Barnsley, Yorkshire. He was wounded At Duty on July 9, 1916, in France. He was discharged on February 24, 1919, and awarded a 30% disability. He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
No record for Robert found in the 1939 Register. Ada died in 1941. Robert passed away in 1956. His death was registered in Spen Valley, Yorkshire.
