Brigadier General Robert Todd was born on 19 Apr 1754 in Trappe, Pennsylvania to parents David Todd and Hannah Owen. He married Nancy Ann Todd, daughter of Rev. John Todd Sr. and Margaret Eleanor Thompson, on 31Dec 1781 in Louisa, Virginia. Children: Levi Luther, Dr. John, Margaret Thompson, Dr. David Fayette, Mary Anne, Eliza A, Thomas Jefferson, daughter. He died on 20 Mar 1814 in Lexington, Kentucky.

As an officer in the Continental Army under General "Mad" Anthony Wayne, he took part in the Indian Wars and the western campaign during the American Revolutionary War. Together with his brothers John Todd and General Levi Todd, he was involved in the early economic and political development of Kentucky prior to its admission into the United States in 1792."
