Biography

Lucy Todd, m. 1st O’Brien, 2nd John Baylor, and became the mother of Colonel John Baylor of Caroline[1]

John Baylor III was born on May 12, 1705, at Smithfield, in King and Queen County, Virginia, the son of John Baylor II, a wealthy planter and merchant, and Lucy Todd O'Brien, a widow who married the elder Baylor in 1698. Family tradition suggests that the Baylors had two additional children, a son and a daughter, but it is unlikely that either reached maturity.[2]

Lucy Todd and John Baylor: John Baylor I and his two sons, John Baylor, the second and Robert Baylor, first settled in Cloucester County before 1692. Before 1704, they had acquired 30,000 acres of land in the County of King and Queen. In 1698, John Baylor, the second, married the widow, Lucy Todd Obrien. On May 12, 1705, Joh Baylor, the third was born at Walkerton. Mrs. Baylor born a Todd, was sister to Mrs. Henry Seaton, who later became the wife of Col Augustine Moore of Chelsea.

John Baylor the second died around 1720. In that year Col Robert Carter wrote to his son in England that John Baylor was dead, “ther greatest merchant in Virginia”.[3]

First - An alternate birth place for Lucy Mary Todd-502 cannot be Shenandoah.

Shenandoah Valley was 1st settled in 1727 and the town of Shenandoah was founded in 1837.

I don't have proof, or a reliable source, but common sense would tell anyone that her parents did not travel 200 miles over hill and dale and mountain range on roads that did not exist, just to birth a baby and then travel back to Gloucester Co.

Second - To D. L. Perry - I totally agree with you.

It seems that no one has given even an inkling of a thought to the possibility that Elizabeth Baylor-2 Pollard may have been the daughter of a previous wife.  ???

By the time John Baylor-46 married Lucy Todd-502 in 1698, he was 46 years old.

There would have been plenty of time for him to have had a first wife (about his same age) and for them to have had Elizabeth Baylor-2 in either 1675 or 1680.

Does this seem plausible to anyone?

How would it be possible that Lucy Todd Baylor was born ca. 1680 and her daughter Elizabeth Baylor Pollard was born ca. 1675? I have found no records stating that John and Lucy Baylor had a daughter named Elizabeth who married Robert Pollard.

Todd-5949 and Todd-502 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth date and spouse

T  >  Todd  |  B  >  Baylor  >  Lucy Mary (Todd) Baylor
