Margaret Ellen Todhunter was born about 19 May 1867 in Willesden, Middlesex, England, United Kingdom, daughter of Charles Franklin Todhunter (1838–1916) and Caroline Dobson (1845–1932).

Margaret graduated from the University of New Zealand in April, 1897, with a degree of Master of Arts.^[1]

Margaret (31) married James Thomson (49) on 17 December 1898 in St.George's Cathedral, Madras, India..^[2] Their son was Andrew Franklin Thomson (1905– ).

In 1911, Margaret Ellen (44) was living with her husband, James, in St Albans, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom.

Margaret died about October 1943 in St Albans, Hertfordshire, aged 76.
