Elizabeth Tompkins was born on March 14, 1680/1681 in Salem, Essex County, MA. Elizabeth is the daughter of John Tompkins and Rebecca Knight.

Elizabeth Tompkins marries to Samuel Rich on May 16, 1717 at Salem, Essex County, MA. Samuel Rich was born about 1683/1684 in Wenham, Essex County, Massachusetts. Samuel is the son of Nicholas Rich and Abigail Green. Samuel died prior to April 1, 1729 at Sutton, Worcester County, MA.

Samuel was a carpenter by occupation and served as a constable for the Town of Mendon.

In 1749, she was mentioned in the estate account of her son Israel. Israel had been obligated to support her and bury her. She died after her son, Israel. She was maintained by Israel's widow Sarah for 31 weeks, and was "helpless as to be lifted in and out of bed."^[5]
