Biography

Hulda Torgerson was born March 7, 1891 at Albert Lea, Minnesota; daughter of Hans and Christine Torgerson.[1]

Andrew and Hulda were married in the sod house of Hulda's parents - Hans and Christine Torgerson. She had moved to Taylor, Stark County, North Dakota to join the men on her family. Hulda and Andrew met there in 1908. Andrew built a sod house there and two years later in 1910 they were married. Rev. J. Larson from Taylor, North Dakota officiated. In 1911 there was a severe wind storm that took the roof off the sod house and tore through the house boards; nobody was hurt. Sometime later they purchased his neighbors farm, Tonnes Likness, and they moved there the spring of 1912.[2] There they lived until some time during the latter part of the 1930's during the dust bowl, when crops couldn't be grown in western North Dakota. The couple had 4 living daughters and 3 sons; all born on their farmstead near Dunn Center, in rural Clay Butte, Dunn County, North Dakota. Their children were:

  1. Gladys Alvina, born May 7, 1911
  2. Arnold Helman, born March 1, 1913

  12. Milton Eugene "Micky;" born January 29, 1933 and died November 28, 2008 at Bagley, Clearwater, Minnesota. He lived near Zerkel, Clearwater, Minnesota.

During the dust bowl of the 1930's the family moved to Blabon, North Dakota where the farm land wasn't quite as dry. Later Hulda, Andrew along with Ina, Viola, their youngest daughter (who is still living so her name is with held,) Merlin, and Milton moved to a farm a few miles south of Bagley, Clearwater, Minnesota; near Zerkel, Clearwater, Minnesota. In their elder years they moved to Portland, Steele, North Dakota.[3]
