Hugh's will provided for Jean/Jane Blain/Blair who was his stepdaughter from the marriage of his wife Sarah Marjory with Barnett Cunningham. Jane married John Blair.

Hugh Torrence's will from 1784 provides compensation for Alexander McClintock who kept Hugh with him after Hugh Sr.'s son, Hugh had left him. Hugh had a stepdaughter Jean Blain who also received some money. The bulk of the estate was divided among James, Hugh and Sarah with Sarah to receive $20 more. • Torrens Families Genealogy Books. The Early Hughs of the Torrens Family in Ulster. James in mentioned. This source states: "there appears to be extremely good evidence that this multiplicity of Hughs has been misinterpreted and some of the families forefathers have been confused with each other so that persons stated to be brothers as they were sons of Hugh, were in fact sons of different Hughs." http://genealogy.torrens.org/Torrens/Essays/hughs.html
  • The Descendants of Lewis Hart and Anne Elliott. By Jared Sidney Torrance. Published 1921. In 1923, the surviving wife of Jared Sidney Torrance published his posthumous genealogy book. This book is a milestone not only in the genealogy of the (mainly American) lines of the families concerned but also in historical documentation. Letter 5 quoted in Genealogy or Fiction? indicates clearly that Jared Sidney Torrence, as much as he wanted to find a connection between all Torrence lines, was not happy to invent one and this and other evidence leads this author to believe that JST's work is about as accurate as it can be. The book has been transcribed, with the exception of part 3 which deals with the lines other than Torrens/Torrence/Torrance. http://genealogy.torrens.org/Torrens/books/JST/index.html

Torrance-54 and Torrence-50 appear to represent the same person because: Dates match. Robert M. Torrence's book gives Albert and James as Hugh's brothers and says that a Hugh is this Hugh's father, though it doesn't name his mother.
