Gideon was born about 1839 in Virginia and a son of Amos Totten and Rebecca Wright. Harvey served in the Civil War for the Union and was a member of the Cass County Home Guard in Company H & C with a Rank of Private. Their primary duty was to protect bridge in Cass and adjoining counties. The engaged in skirmishes in Parkville, Harrisonville, Jonesborough, Wadesborg, Butler, Grand River and Old Randolph. His death and burial details are unknown. [1]
