Biography

Ambrose was born Jan. 6, 1699-1700 in Hingham.

He was for several years a resident of Hull, whereby wife Mary he had

  1. Joseph, Sept. 5, 1723
  2. Ambrose, Nov. 11,1725
  3. Jonathan, March 4, 1728.

"Ambrose Tower removed from Hingham quite early. There appears to be no record of either of his marriages. He was in Hull when his oldest son was born. He afterwards removed to Concord, Mass., and resided in that part of the town which was set off and made the town of Lincoln. There appear to be no conveyances of real estate to or from him, and at his death there was neither will nor administration upon his estate. The following will show that he was at one time somewhat embarrassed in his circumstances. The first ])aper is a summons from the " Inferior Court of Common Pleas, to be holden at Boston on the first Tuesday of July next, then and there to answer unto Peter Tower, of Hingham, etc., weaver, in an action of debt" of .£58. The summons is dated June 18, 1733. On the 20th of June, 1733, Ambrose Tower signs a bond in the penal sum of £44 to secure the payment of .£22 " in good bills of credit, or current lawful silver money, on or before the 30th day of this instant June." On the back of the bond the receipt of two payments is indorsed, April 21, 1736, £3, and July 1, 1736, £3 19s."5-7. Most of those bearing the name of Tower now residing in Middlesex County are the descendants of Ambrose. Others of his descendants have gone out into all parts of the country, and are to-day filling positions of honor and trust."[1]

Ambrose was born about 1699.
