IMMIGRATION. 1852. On the MOUNT STEWART/STUART ELPHINSTON(E). Departed Plymouth abt. 18 Mar 1852. Arrived Port of Melbourne 5 Jul 1852.

PASSENGER. Townsend, Philip Henry: 1828 Westminster MDX ENG, Mount Stewart Elphinston, 1852, Hobsons Bay Vic

IMMIGRATION. The Mount Stewart Elphinstone has made an ordinary passage of 109 days from Plymouth. She is commanded by Captain Dale, brother to Captain Dale, of the Hero brig, so favourably known for his quick trips between this port and Adelaide. The passengers appear to be generally respectable, but we thought that we detected amongst them a few of that class which the immortal Punch has stereotyped as "fast." We trust, however, that they, may settle down into good colonists. One death occurred on board-R. Beckford, from consumption.

PORT OF MELBOURNE. ARRIVALS. July 5 - Mount Stewart Elphinstone, with emigrants ; amongst them are 60 miners for the British Australian Mining Company.

THE BRITISH AUSTRALIAN GOLD MINING COMPANY.-We are informed that this Company will immediately commence operations. Valuable machinery for quartz crushing is on board the Asiatic, by which Vessel Mr. Ewing Pye Colquhoun, one of the London Directory, and Mr. Hodson, the Company's Assayer, are passengers. A numerous staff of practical miners have arrived at Melbourne by the Mount Stewart Elphinstone, and will come on to Sydney without delay.

MARRIAGE. 2 Jul 1857, All Saints Church, Sandhurst, Victoria, Australia

MARRIAGE. 2 Jul 1857, Grace West Emmett, daughter of Henry James Emmett (II) & Mary Elizabeth Thompson (Townsend) Emmett

MARRIAGE, On Thursday, the 2nd inst., by special license, by the Rev. J. D. Brennan, of All Saints Church, Sandhurst, Philip, fourth son of the late Thomas Henry Townsend, Esq., of London, to Grace West, youngest daughter of the late Henry James Emmett, Esq., of Tasmania.

Children:

(1) Phillip Henry Townsend, b. 22 May 1858, d. 13 Jun 1936, m. 1887, Emily Helen Emmett, daughter of William Abbot Emmett & Mary Elizabeth (Neale) Emmett
(2) Harriett Mary Grace Townsend, b. 23 Sep 1860, d. 7 May 1897, m. 1888, Frank Hamilton Emmett, son of William Abbot Emmett & Mary Elizabeth (Neale) Emmett
(3) Alfred Herbert Townsend, b. 1863, d. Jul 1942

(Feb 1882). THE LATE MR. EMMETT, CIRCULAR HEAD.—Mr. Philip Townsend, Emerald Hill, Melbourne, a brother-in-law of the late Mr. Emmett, writes to contradict the statement that he was connected, by descent, with the family of Robert Emmet, the Irish patriot. The late gentleman's father was, by birth, a Cornishman, and in no way connected with Robert Emmet, who used only one final " t." We regret the mistake, but our informant, generally thoroughly reliable, must have been misinformed himself.

(Aug 1882). A heartless case of child desertion was reported to the Emerald hill police last evening. It appears that about a quarter to 9 o clock, Mr Philip Townsend, of Clifton terrace, Albert road, heard a child crying, and on going outside he found a female infant on the mat at the front door. The poor little waif, which appears to be about nine days old, was rather scantily clothed, and was wrapped up in an old flannel petticoat The matter was reported to the police, and Mrs. Townsend very kindly took charge of the child for the night.

(Dec 1887). PATENT for INVENTION, entitled "An Improved Necktie Fastener" -This Is to notify that PHILIP TOWNSEND, of South Meibourne, (gentleman), has APPLIED for LETTERS PATENT for the said invention, and that I have appointed Wednesday, the eleventh day of January, 1888, at 11 a.m., at the Patent office, Melbourne, to hear the said application and all objections thereto. All persons objecting to the grant of such application must leave notice thereof in writing at the said office on or before the 7th January, or they will not be heard. Dated this second day of December, 1897. (Signed) H. J. WRIXON, Attorney General. Patent office, Lonsdale-street west, Melbourne.
