Biography

Church of Ireland Clergy

John was the son of Richard Townsend and Dorothea Robinson.

He was educated by Mr Coghlan and entered Trinity College Dublin on 6 April 1801, aged 19. B.A. 1805. Note: The T.C.D. Alumni register states incorrectly that his father was John Townsend, Clericus (priest). [1]

He was ordained Deacon on 6 July 1806 and Priest on 12 July 1807.

John married Alicia Warren, daughter of Sir Robert Warren, of Crookstown, co. Cork. in 1808. [2]

Marriage Settlement dated 25 February 1808. [3]

Thursday, at Moviddy Church, co Cork, the Rev. John Townsend, son to the Rev. Richard Townsend of Skull, to Miss Alicia Warren, daughter to Sir Robert Warren, of Crookstown, Bart.

  1. Elisabeth married Lieutenant Odell, 20th Regt.,
  2. Richard married Maria Susanna Wilkinson

He died in 1815. [4]

Townsend-6191 and Townsend-4099 appear to represent the same person because: Rev John Townsend was the son of Richard Townsend and Dorothea Robinson. According to the marriage notice John married Alicia Warren, daughter of Sir Robert Warren, of Crookstown, co. Cork. in 1808.
