Richard Townsend born 18 July 1684, son of Bryan and Mary (Synge) Townsend.
Richard married 1st to his cousin Mary Synge, daughter of Very Rev Samuel Synge, Dean of Kildare.

Samuel born 1706 died 1725
Maria Margaretta born about 1707 married Thomas Daunt in 1743.[1]
Richard married 2nd to Elizabeth Becher, only daughter of Henry Becher of Aghadown, Skibbereen, co Cork in 1724.[2]
Children included:
Richard born about 1725 eldest surviving son inherited Castletownshend estate
John born 1737 married Mary Morris in 1769
Henry born before 1742 died unmarried Feb 1788
Elizabeth born about 1726 married Richard Gwynn in 1746[3]
Helena born 1726 who married Rev Arthur Herbert in 1752[4]
Harriet born before 1742 married David Freeman in 1758[5]
Richard was a Justice of the Peace in 1715.
Richard was High Sheriff of County Cork in 1726.
Richard lived at Castle Townsend, County Cork, Ireland.
Richard's will was dated February 1740, it was proved on 11 Nov 1742,[6] his widow Elizabeth died in 1743.
Their children were left in care of Uncles Stephen, Philip and Horatio Townsend.
Research Notes
Mary's marriage settlement says "Whereas soon after the execution of the sd deed (12th March 1707) the sd Richd Townsend intermarryd wth the sd Mary Synge & the sd Mary soon after dyed leaving issue by the sd Richd Townsend one son who dyed a minor unmarried & wthout issue & the sd Mary Townsend".[1]
