Littleton was born about 1828. At age 21 Littleton enlisted (November 13, 1847) as a private in Anderson's Rifles, Vicksburg, Mississippi. as the Mexican War was ending. He returned to Georgia to his farm where he married Eliza Jenkins, June 8 1848 in Henry, Georgia. Littleton Townsend then enlisted in the Confederate Army 31 Aug 1861 as Corporal in Georgia's Company K (Henry Volunteers), 22nd Infantry leaving Eliza and 5 children, ages 10 to 2, behind. He was wounded on July 2, 1863 at the battle of Gettysburg and imprisoned, where he died of his wounds.[1]
