Biography

Elizabeth Tracy, the daughter of Paul Tracy and Ann Shakerley was born at Stanway, Gloucestershire in 1586 and was baptised there on 19 June of that year. [1]

Marriage

On 21 June 1605 she married Giles Carter. Their marriage took place at Stanway, Gloucestershire.[2] This record of their marriage is transcribed incorrectly in the Ancestry database as a baptism for Giles Carter but examination of the image shows it is a marriage. The record reads, in clerical latin, celbrantus nuptia inter Egidium Carter fillium Johannis carter, generosa and Elizabetham filia Pauli Tracy armigeri uno et vingtessa die Juanni Anno Dmni 1605. In translation: Celebrating the marriage between Giles Carter, son of John Carter, gentlemant and Elizabeth, daughter of Paul Tracy, Knight on 21 June 1605. It appears from the Inquisition Post Mortem of her father in law John Carter, that Elizabeth Tracy was given the manor of Cold Aston, along with some estates at Badgeworth, Gloucestershire as part of the marriage settlement. [3]

In 1640, Elizabeth received a bequest from her niece Elizabeth Ayelsworth of Lower Swell, daughter of her sister Lucy. [4]

Death

Elizabeth died in 1663 and is commemorated by a plaque in the church at Cold Aston.
