Civil War, Company H; 12th WV Infantry / Enlisted on the 16th of Aug 1862 / Mustered in the 27th Aug 1862 at Grafton, Taylor Co., VA (WV) / Deserted in Bedford, PA on 30 June 1863 and apprehend the 25th of Feb 1865 and sentenced to 2 years hard labor with a ball and chain and forfeted all pay from 30 June 1863 - on. There was a $6.20 charge against his pay to cover the cost of transporting him from Parkersburg to Cumberland, MD to serve his time.
