William Traill was born circa 1740, in Prince George Parish, Montgomery county, Maryland, a son of James Traill, Sr. and his wife, Rachel. William's brother, James Traill, Jr. married Frances' sister, Mary Ann Northcraft (aka Northcroft). William signed the Oath of Allegiance in Montgomery county, in 1778. We know that William died after May 30, 1783and prior to March 18, 1798, which is the time when his father wrote his Will, in Montgomery county, Maryland. William's wife, Frances, was a widow at the time and was given 100 acres of land, known as "Father's Good Will" where she was living, and her children were named in the Will to receive her portion after her decease or remarriage. The children were: "James Trail, William Trail, Edward Trail, and Nathan Trail - above land at her decease or remarriage." William's mother, Rachel, and his brother, James were named as executors. [1] According to records belonging to the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, William. The property where William and his wife, Frances Northcraft (aka Northcroft) made their home was part of the Sugar Loaf (aka Sugarloaf) Hundred. Following American independence, the term "hundred" fell out of favor and was replaced by "election district". However, the names of the old hundreds continue to show up in deeds for another 50 years. Application for membership in the Society have been made by the descendants of his daughter, Rachel Traill, who married Francis Woodward. (Note: his records are found under the surname of Traill , ending with a double "l" ) [2]
