15 Apr 1660: Burial of Thomas Tremmell at Hackington, St Stephen, Kent.[7]
Research Notes
There don't seem to be any sure sources for the parentage of the Thomas Tremmell (variously transcribed as Tremmett, Tremwell, Tremill and Tremail) who married at Hackington on 30 Dec 1634[8] A Stephen Tremnell (or Trymmell, Trymnell) was fathering children in nearby Selling (7 miles from Hackington) in 1577[9] and probably still in 1587[10] In the absence of other evidence, it seems unnecessary to seek for Thomas's origins so far away as London[11] or Chiselhurst[12] There is however a hint that Stephen may have moved to Selling from Brookland in Romney Marsh in the christening there of a Thomas Trynmell son of Steven on 14 Jan 1574/5.[13] This would be a move of nearly 20 miles, but it would at least match up with Thomas's father's currently unsourced birthplace being listed as Rye, although if the Thomas in question is the one born in Brookland, he would have been 59 by the time of the above marriage.
