The WILL "to give each of my said CHILDREN their equal portion as they come to age of 18" (no ages given, except they are under the age of 18 in July of 1670)
Frances DIED about 1645 so the the majority of children were probably Alice Watson's who died about 1663. Alice Watson arrived in Virginia before 1652 and was listed as one of the people on the headright patent sponsored by George Truitt in 1654.

Historical Facts

WILL Note:"1670, 10 Jul. George wrote his will" which was probated October 16 of that year. He left land to sons Henry, James, George, John and Job. He mentioned daughters Jane, Dorothy, Susannah and Elizabeth. Henry and George were executors.-[Genealogies of Pennsylvania Families, p. 243]" ~ this data vs. the year of death as "1680" on his gravestone is puzzling..

Interesting Facts ✔"George Truitt sponsored Alice Watson's passage from England along with 5 other persons. . Name: :Alice Watson

Arrival year:1654 from Passenger and Immigration Lists 1500-1900's
Place: Virginia
"Annotation: Includes 25,000 names from records of the Virginia State Land Off. Excerpts of the Irish names from the GREER LIST were published in # 6258, O'Brien, Early Immigrants to Virginia..."

Note: This is the headright patent date and can be years away from the actual arrival date.

"He had land at Onancock and at Muddy Creek." "His sons Henry and George were left in charge of the father's estate."

"Henry & George, the sons, were known to be Quakers, In Va. Other grown children moved to Maryland which later fell into Sussex, Delaware.

George was one of 6 trustees who held title to the one acre site of the historic Guilford Quaker Meeting house. George's house "Pocomoke" was named a Quaker meeting house in 1704 and George's will left an acre of land to the Quakers for a burying ground & meeting house in 1720-1 (Torrance 85-111)"

Research Notes

"Dr. Groves Research"

Dr. Groves research info starts at 1617-[2]
"GEORGE TRUITT PROBABLY WAS BORN DURING 1617 IN PERHAPS WALES OR CORNWALL OR KENT, ENGLAND.[Shannonhouse; Houston] (George's birthdate is inferred from [Houston] who mentions a deposition of George Truitt, age 46, in November 1663."
Note: Dr. Groves does not make mention to whom George's parents were.
"All those references about removing and adding Frances Peddenton, etc." moved to the OneNameStudy.
  1. Research Note: From Court Records and shows that Alice was here by 1651/2.

"Primo die mensis February 1652 (p 133) Where as George Truhett is presented to the court by the jury of inquest for incontinence with his wife before marriage and hath made his humble submission to the court (imploring their favorable consure) its therefore ordered that the said George Truhett be fined two hundred pounds of tobacco, pay court charges and put in security for payment there of (at the next crop) atr exec " [3]

  1. Why do you have this person in a project that is an unproven place of birth?
the Project is not JUST about his place of birth, it is about finding the answer and pinpointing it.
  1. RESEARCH NOTE; It has not been proven that GEORGE TRUITT came from Kent, ENGLAND. To assume this is to discourage research in other areas of England such as Cornwall where he may have been born per Dr. Groves research referenced below.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:

We do not know who the father of George Truitt of Virginia was or if he was the son of another George. Please do not add II to George Truitt's name to indicate he was the son of an older George until valid sources can be provided.

Just trying to have everything sourced.

Thanks, Mary

It is totally unproven that George Truitt the Immigrant was born in Kent, England. Please do not remove the research note because it encourages future researchers to search for his birthplace in areas other than Kent. Why someone put him into a special project for Migrants from Kent to Virginia is unclear?

Thank you, Mary Gresham

was not me... I still see the research note... but I have not touched this since May 2021..............I think it is safe to say in 1617-1670 that MOST of us Europeans that came to the New World were born in England, don't you? The FREE SPACE is a workshop to put ideas, sources, etc.... that is all. and one of the "TASKS" is to prove where he was born.

When George Truitt was brought up in court on charges of his marriage being inconsistent, it means that he and Alice were living together at least in 1652. The 1655 date is the headright patent date and that can be sometimes up to 5 years after the actual arrival in Virginia. I am speculating that Alice arrived the next year after the death of Frances Graves as a caretaker for his young children. George and Alice began their relationship then. He was then brought up on charges of marital inconsistency.

"Primo die mensis February 1652 (p 133) Where as George Truhett is presented to the court by the jury of inquest for incontinence with his wife before marriage and hath made his humble submission to the court (imploring their favorable consure) its therefore ordered that the said George Truhett be fined two hundred pounds of tobacco, pay court charges and put in security for payment there of (at the next crop) atr exec." I do not have an actual copy of this transcription. A print copy is available for inter library loan or at Family History Centers. Mary, oh my, how could you say such a thing about our grandfather........hhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmm But you are probably right, and it does then make more sense.. I just read our bio, and I do not see the above mentioned... can you attach a copy of the court document or the address. And surely you have to add your comment.

Research Notes don't require citations. They are just notes for guidance. If George Truitt was born in Kent, England then that is the place where a citation is needed. His profile is currently marked uncertain as to where he was born. In Dr. Groves Research, he makes the statement that George may have come from Cornwall.

Looking at Coldham 1679-1700, I don't see a reference to THIS George. There are two Georges with Somerset county land records, but one has 1684 and 1687 dates. I would assume son George. The other, "George, Jr., of Virginia" 1699 record -- maybe Henry's son, George? But both too late to be this man.

Was working on my Shorter line and saw a notation that said John Shorter was born in Kent, England and had moved from Virginia to Delaware, probably Quakers. Remembered then that my Truitt line and Shorter lines intersect in Georgia. Knew the other allied family was Render and they were also Quakers. Now if we find Shorters and Truitts and Renders in Kent, England that would be something!

I wonder, "Henry", George named his first born son Henry, could it be that he honored his father by naming his child after his father, Henry? do we know someone in Kent England? to ask for a look-up.

AND that son, Henry, named a son Henry, sounds like what our ancestors did...

posted by Carole Taylor
George could also have a brother named Henry..that he named a child after??? If we could only find George's family in England................ maybe someone with a dna test can be lucky...
