William Henry Augustus Tripp was born 25 Jun 1802 in near Marietta, Washington County, Ohio. He was the son of William Tripp and his first wife Catherine Holbert.[1]
His grandmother Holbert brought him from Washington County to Athens County, Ohio and then to Nelsonville and then to Logan in Hocking County, Ohio.[1]
William Tripp and Nancy A Roby were married 8 Apr 1821 in Logan, Hocking County, Ohio.[1][2] She was born 14 May, 1805 in Harrison County, Virginia and died 9 November 1894.
William and Nancy remained in Hocking County for about two years before moving to Haydensville in Athens County and, in 1835, to Jackson County, Ohio. After joining the United Brethren Church in 1830, he was ordained as a minister in 1845. He worked a farm and as a carpenter, and preached on Saturday and Sunday.[1][3][4]
William and Nancy had a family of 14 children. Seven of his 9 sons were in the Union Army at the same time.[1]
He died 20 Jun 1849 in Washington, Jackson County, Ohio.[5][1]
He is buried in Tripp Cemetery, Washington Township, Jackson County, Ohio.[6]
