Paula Tripp was born in Colorado in 1913 or 1914, daughter of Lee E. and Mildred B. Tripp, and was brought up in Cortez, Colorado. She married George Robertson in 1936 in Durango, Colorado. They had a son, Robert. They divorced in 1937. In 1940 she and Robert, 3, were with her parents in Cortez; she was stenographer at a bank.
