Fanny was born between July and September 1850 in the Village of Compton, south of the City of Winchester, in Hampshire, England[1]. She is the daughter of James Trodd and Frances "Fanny" Vaine. In 1851, Fanny (10 months) lived with parents, Blacksmith, James (41) and Frances (39) and siblings Jane (14), Emily (10), Agnes (8), James Vaine (6) and Frank (3) in the Village of Compton, Hampshire, England[2]. Fanny (10) still lived with her parents James (51) and Frances (49) in 1861 in the Village of Compton. Her siblings Domestic Servants, Emily (20) and Agnes (8); Frank (13) and Sarah (9) also lived with them[3].

On the 9 August 1870, Fanny married Ezekiel Hancock at the Parish Church of Saint Matthew, in the Village of Otterbourne, Parish of Otterbourne, approximately four miles (6.4 km) south of the City of Winchester, and eight miles (13 km) north of the City of Southampton, in Hampshire, England. At the time of the marriage, Ezekiel was 39, a Bachelor and worked as a Gardener, living in Hursley. His bride, Fanny was 20, a Spinster and worked as a Domestic Servant, living in Otterbourne. After Banns had been published, the couple were married by William Bigg (Wither) in front of witnesses William and Agnes (Trodd)[4][5]. The couple had at least seven (7) children born to them during their marriage.

Now married, Ezekiel (39) lived with wife Fanny (20) and their newborn daughter, Fanny (1 month), in 1871, at the Old Vicarage House, Hursley Street, in the Village of Hursley, near the City of Winchester, in Hampshire, England[6]. The Hancock family was still in the Village of Hursley in 1881. Ezekiel (49) now worked as a Gardener/Domestic to support his wife Fanny (30) and children Humphrey (10); Frances "Fanny" (8), Harry (6), Marion (3) and Richard (2)[7]. On the 25 October 1882, the following year, the Hancock family boarded the vessel "R.M. S. Merkara" in the Port of Plymouth, Devonshire, England. Ezekiel (37), Mrs (Fanny) (31) and children H (Humphrey) (11), Francis (9), Harry (7), Marion (5), Richard (3) and Robin (1) all arrived in the Town of Cooktown,at the mouth of the Endeavour River, on Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, Australia in December 1882[8].

  • [9] The s.s. Merkara. LONDON, October 26.—The British-India steamer Merkara left London on the 25th inst., for Queensland[10].
  • [11] INTERCOLONIAL SHIPPING....BRISBANE. BRISBANE.—Arrived, December 21—Merkara, from London[12].

The family settled in the gold mining Town of Charters Towers, in the Charters Towers Region, in the Colony of Queensland, Australia and it was where their daughter Annie Agnes was born in 1884. However, it is not clear when they emigrated to the Colony of Western Australia. Ezekiel died in 1899, and a few years later, on the 20 June 1901, in Ascot, Town of Guildford, widow Fanny married Owen Gregory Holli Day[13]. It doesn't appear as if the couple had any children. Fanny passed away, on the 26 July 1940, at the grand old age of 90, at her daughter's residence, 18 Melville Street, in Claremont, City of Perth, Western Australia[14]. Her burial took place around the 28 July 1940 at the Anglican portion, Section BA, grave number 633 of the Karrakatta Cemetery and Crematorium, Railway Parade, Karrakatta, City of Perth, Western Australia[15].

  • [16] DEATHS. DAY.—On July 26, 1940, at her daughter's residence, 18 Melville-street, Claremont, Fanny, beloved wife of the late O. G. H. Day, loving mother of Humphrey (deceased). Frances (Mrs. Townley, Queensland); Harry Hancock (Queensland); Marion (Mrs. Alford. Victoria); Dick Hancock (Geraldton); Robin Hancock (Bunbury) and Annie (Mrs. A. Sugars.
