Henry Trowbridge was born on 22 April 1816 in New Haven, Connecticut, USA, His father, Henry, was 34 and his mother, Harriet, was 27.

He first married Mary Webster Southgate on 24 July 1838 in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut.^{[1] [2]}. Mary Webster Southgate, died on 2 May 1860. ^[1]
