Biography

James Trowbridge was born in the spring of 1717, to William Trowbridge and Sarah Ward of Newton, Massachusetts.[1] He married Jerusha Park, daughter of Richard Park and Sarah Fuller, in Newton in the winter of 1739.[2] They settled in Worcester, Massachusetts, and had six known children:[3]

  • 1741-1748: William,[4] died in childhood
  • 1743-1820: Sarah[5], m. William Ward, 1765
  • 1745-1818: Mary[6], m. Zerubabbel Snow, 1765
  • 1747: Abigail[7], m. ___ Parks
  • 1751-1833: William[8], m. 1st Sarah Rice, 1776; m. 2nd Achsah Hersey, 1789
  • 1754-1834: Lydia[9], m. William Farr, 1773

Jerusha died before 1758, when James is recorded as the father of Elizabeth with a mother named Mary.[10] He is also named as the father of Dolly, born 1765.[11] No mother is named in that record, but she is most likely also Mary.

  • 1758-1846: Elizabeth, m. 1st Josiah Rice, 1778; m. 2nd Jonathan Cobleigh, >1783
  • 1765-1791: Dolly, m. Oliver Morsman? 1781

James remarried a final time to Lydia Mower, widow of Henry Ward, in 1779. The couple had no children.

James died in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1806. He was buried there at the Mechanic Street Burial Ground, and later reinterred at Hope Cemetery.[12]
