Biography

Elizur was born in 1784 in Glastonbury, the son of Elizur Tryon and Lucy Kilbourn.[1] He married Lucinda Tryon in Hartford in 1827 (date of marriage not given in newspaper extract).[2] He died in 1836 (see notes). He is buried near infant daughters Lucinda and Sophronia Tryon and also Lucinda Brooks, his wife Lucinda, who remarried after his death.

Research Notes

He has conflicting death years. His headstone says Oct 9, 1837 at age 52, which is what FaG and all the death indexes are based on [3] [4][5].

However, there is a newspaper death notice in 1836: "At Glastonbury, on Friday last, Mr. Elizur Tryon. His death was death was occasioned by a fall from a walnut tree." [6]. This would suggest his death was 14 Oct 1836. There is also a 31 Oct 1836 Glastonbury newspaper notice for the death of Elizur Tryon on 28 Oct 1836 [7] and another for 19 Oct 1836 [8].

There is a Guardian Bond in Glastonbury for Washington (8) and Lucia Tryon (10), son and duaghter of Elizur Tryon deceased dated 1843 which assigns Julius Bidwell as their guardian. Their mother, Lucinda, died in 1841 which must have triggered this change in guardianship.

He is found in the 1830 census in Glastonbury along with his father and many relatives, nearly all listed together. He is 40-50 with wife 20-30. There are no children (Lucinda has died and Sophronia is born the following year).
