Enoch is almost certainly the youngest child and son of Matthew Tryon and Mary Weld. He appears with his widowed mother, a sister and a brother in 1850 census, though the relationships between members of the household is not given in the 1850 census. Some family researchers have his name as Enoch Hubbard Tryon with a birth date of April 5, 1847 and birthplace of Le Roy, Genesee Co., NY.
CRESSWELL, April 22.(Special).
—Enoch Hubbard Tryon died at his home Tuesday morning, April 21, after a long illness, leaving his widow, Mrs. Minnie Tryon and four chidren: Miss Elizabeth Tryon of Creswell, John Tryon of Vancouver, Wash., Victor Tryon of Winnipeg, Can., and Mrs. Coates P. Bull of St. Laul, Minn.; also five grandchildren: Coates, Henry and Tryon Bull of St. Paul and Victor and Philip Tryon of Winnipeg.
Mr. Tryon was born in LeRoy, N. Y., April 5 1847, having just passed his 78th birthday at the time of his death. He was the youngest of three childrn of Mary and Augustus Tryon; one brother W. W. Tryon of Tecumseh, Flen?., survives him. He was married to Miss Minnie Tremaine, eldest child of Dr. and Mrs. John Tremaine, formerly of Oxford, N. Y., on November 30, 1876 in Akron, Ia. This acquaintance began at the ago of 16 at a church social in LeRoy, N. Y. To them were born five children, four of whom are living and the second child, Herbert, passed away in infancy.
In 1888 the family moved to Spencer, Ia., where at one time Mr. Tryon was a member of the school board. He was also stockholder in the Spencer Grain company who moved their offices to Minneapolis in 1899 where the name of the firm was changed to Reliance Elevator company.
In May, 1910, Mr. Tryon suffered a stroke of paralysis and the following year the family came to Cresswell, Oregon, being advised to seek a more equable climate.
Preceding his marriage while in Springfield, Ill., he filled the different chairs of the I. O. O. F. lodge, he was a Knight Templar of the Masonic order and a member of Cresswell Blue Lodge NO. 112, A. F. and A. M.
When 16 years of age he was baptized into the Baptist church of LeRoy, N. Y., of which his mother was a member. He has lived a life of honesty in the spirit as well as the letter, and of faith, love and service to others, respected by all who knew him. Before his connection with the Spencer Grain company he was a partner in a flour mill which through his influence annually delivered sacks of flour as Christmas gifts to needy families.
He was a very sympathetic and indulgent husband and father. During his 15 years of illness Mr. Tryon was remarkably brave, patient and cheerful, awaiting the call of his maker to "come home."
The funeral will be held from the home on Thursday morning at nine o'clock and the remains will be taken east for interment. Funeral arrangements are in charge of E. A. Schwering, undertaker.[1]
Enoch named one son Victor Weld Tryon (Victor b SD 1881). The full name of this son is confirmed on the son's 1917 draft card, which indicates Enoch's relationship to the Weld family of his mother. The 1910 census also has a daughter Elizabeth living in the household, b. abt 1872 South Dakota. It is confirmed that Enoch's own middle name was Hubbard, as this appears on the entry in the Oregon death records in 1925. Hubbard was the maiden name of Enoch's paternal great-grandmother, Mary (Hubbard) Tryon.
