Clifford was born in Malone, New York, the son of George Tryon and Jennie Manning. Prior to America entering World War I (March 20, 1916 to October 11, 1917) Clifford served in the New York National Guard. He served overseas as a mechanic from May 10, 1918 to March 9, 1919. He was demobilized on April 2, 1919.[1][2]
By 1930 married, wife's name Mildred Ellinore (b abt 1911 NY, parents both born PA).
By 1940 two children: Donald Lee Tryon (b abt 1936 Elmira NY) and Joyce Ann Tryon (b abt 1937 Elmira NY)
