MRS. EDITH T. SMITH
Funeral rites for Mrs. Edith Tryon Smith, 84, widow of Dr. William C. Smith, who died at her home in Scottsville Monday night, were held at 3 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Winthrop Methodist church. Interment was in Brasher Falls.
A daughter of Julius and Charlotte Cary Tryon, she was born in Moira in 1862 and had resided in the Winthrop area nearly all her life. Following her marriage to Dr. Smith on Dec. 2, 1882, the couple lived in Brasher Falls and in 1894 moved to Wintrhop. Dr. Smith, who died in 1945, was for 62 years a practicing physician in Winthrop and Brasher and served as a county coroner, retiring in 1939.
The couple sold their home in June, 1943, and moved to Scottsville where Dr. Smith died on March 1, 1945. Mrs. Smith had since resided there.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Clarence R. (Pauline) Pearson, Scottsville; a son, Guy L. Smith, Tallahassee, Fla., and two granchildren, William C. Smith, Tallahassee, and Clarence A. Pearson, Scottsville.
Mrs. Smith was a loyal, working member of the Brasher Falls Methodist church and Paurentian Chapter, O.E.S.[2]
