Biography

Arthur was the youngest child and third son of Nelson Tryon and Sophia Putnam. He married Mattie Hattes, daughter of Augustus Hattes and Mary Taylor, in Marseilles, Illinois on July 14, 1894.[1]

Death and Burial Evidence

This Arthur is probably, but not certainly, the Arthur Tryon who died in Moline, Rock Island, Illinois on 22 February 1922 at the age of 60. According to the indexed death record, the deceased was born in Kansas, son of George and Martha Tryon, but the approximate age fits, as does his occupation as machinist, that he lived for a time after his wife's death in Kansas with a brother, that he died in Moline where his only child had been living in 1921 (she may have married but last appears in the Moline directory in 1921) and the fact that he was buried in Marseilles, Illinois. His late wife's tombstone, which has her dates on it, also includes his name, but no dates. It would make sense that he was buried beside her, and the fact that his parents died when he himself was just a child may explain the discrepancy between his actual parents' names and the names given on the death record.[2]
